Vestibular Testing

Vestibular Testing

Vestibular testing is done to provide information used to diagnose benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), dizziness, light headedness, balance difficulties as well as other conditions. The testing takes approximately 45 minutes to one hour.

For this test the patient is asked to make sure their ears are clean with no waxy buildup in ear canals. They are asked not wear facial or eye makeup, no glasses or contacts. Wearing comfortable clothing and flat shoes is best for testing. Also, patients should only eat a light meal on test day and they are NOT to take any dizziness medication unless medically necessary for 48 hours prior to testing. (This does not include Lasix if it has been prescribed for a heart condition). Patients are asked not to consume alcohol for 48 hours prior to testing and no smoking or caffeine for 24 hours prior to testing.
